Bring your Fanfare to the Royal Opera House
Details of the Royal Opera House Schools Fanfare competition 2017 and new learning resources are now online.
Fanfare is a creative composition opportunity for students aged between 11 and 18. It can be used as a classroom activity or for talented individuals.
The ROH is looking for short, attention-grabbing ideas that bring a modern twist to the traditional fanfare.
Students follow a series of challenges, listen to Opera House Repertoire in their Motif Bank for inspiration and write for an ensemble of professional musicians. Their comprehensive Fanfare resource pack and past winning fanfares will equip you and your class with creative skills and ideas to use when teaching or learning about composition and analysis.
Working with Music Director and conductor Antonio Pappano plus the Orchestra of the Royal Opera House, winning entrants will have their fanfares professionally recorded. The final fanfares are then used to call audiences into the performances every night of the following season.
Entries for Fanfare 2017 open on Thursday 9 March 2017 and close on Wednesday 15 March 2017.
Key dates and details on how to submit entries can be found here.
A CPD session will take place on 28 January 2017. After the session you’ll also get the chance to see The Royal Opera House production of La traviata! To book your place or for more information on Fanfare please email firstname.lastname@example.org.
The ROH looks forward to receiving entries from your students in March.
