Young musicians in North Lincolnshire can access ensemble playing from an early stage by joining the groups at the North Lincolnshire Music Centre. These are run by the Music Support Service and operate every Saturday during term time at Frederick Gough School from 9.45am to 12.15pm.
The First String Orchestra or First Concert Band is open to all beginner strings, wind and percussion players who have reached approximately grade 1 standard. Progression through the various different orchestras and bands available is then made when the young person reaches the required standard, usually by teacher recommendation, culminating in the more advanced groups aimed at players grade 5 and above.
There are also smaller groups such as the Jazz Rock Band and quartets etc which run on week day evenings. These also take place at Frederick Gough School.
All of the above groups run fortnightly so that members can access different groups on alternating Saturdays should they wish to. The Music Centre also offers workshops, concerts, trips, events and funding aid to members and is a great musical family to belong to.

Young Musicians Groups aimed at early years upwards
As part of the Music Centre there are three groups which operate every Saturday during term time. These are open to all children from 18 months up to 11 years old. These open access groups are aimed at parents and children who wish to explore musical learning from an early start and use songs, games, instruments and Kodaly methology to nurture the children’s musical mind. They are led by an experienced music tutor and are a fantastic start to your child’s musical journey, hopefully to playing an instrument for many years to come.
