Music Projects to develop musical talents

Children and young people in North Lincolnshire with a passion for music can get involved in a range of music projects to develop their musical talents.

Humber Taiko

Humber Taiko run a Tetsu Taiko group and are soon to launch a new Tiny Taiko group. They have recently been successful in a further grant from Arts Council England to support the second annual Humber Taiko festival this November. Further information can be found on the Humber Taiko website.

Rock Academy

Rock Academy is for 11 to 19 year-olds and is delivered on Thursdays (term time only) at Kimberley Performing Arts Centre, Scunthorpe at £1 per session.

Young people will get to work with experienced musicians to learn instruments, improvisation, performance, technology and vocal work. The group regularly perform at local and regional events including Epworth Music Day and Café Indiependent.

Beginner sessions for those aged 11 to 14 run 6pm to 7pm and advanced sessions for those aged 14 to 19 is 7pm to 9pm. For further information about the Rock Academy sessions, call 01724 297277 or email

North Lincolnshire Young Music Makers at Frederick Gough School

Tiny Tots Music sessions for children aged 18 months to three years-old take place from 9.45am to 10.15am and Music Makers sessions for children aged four to seven years take place from 10.30am to 11.15am on Saturdays duiring term time.
Children should be accompanied by an adult and these sessions are £5 per half term. The sessions explore music, movement, songs and rhymes based on traditional songs and games, to focus on the development of language, communication, listening and the foundations of music.

The Wings Music Group, also on a Saturday during term-time, is for children aged seven to 11 from 11.15pm to 12.15pm and is for children who are interested in learning an instrument, developing their confidence and preparing them to further their musical involvement in the Music Centre by joining ensembles. The Wings Music Group is £10 per half term.
