The Music Centre is tutored by staff from the North Lincolnshire Music Support Service. It is based at John Leggott College. Some activities are based at Frederick Gough School (Wednesday evenings). There is a nominal fee per term for membership of the centre. This covers as many groups as you wish to join!
Instrumentalists have a wide variety of ensembles to choose from including String Orchestras, Concert Bands, and Swing Bands. They range from approximately grade 1 standard through to grade 8. Entry to the training groups is by teacher recommendation or simply by giving the Music Support Service office a ring. Presently the members range in age from 8 to 19 with upper and lower strings, woodwind, brass and percussion players catered for. Progression through the groups is by reaching the standard required to move on and by the recommendation of the ensemble conductor.
Membership of the Music Centre also opens up other exciting opportunities for the players such as extra workshops, master classes, tours and performing opportunities in professional venues and large-scale ventures. The young musicians were thrilled and proud to be asked to perform the accompaniment to the ‘Cycle Song’ in the summer of 2012, where they joined as one to form an orchestra of 150 players with huge success.
The Music Centre is also delighted to welcome new music groups through partnership with the Arts Development Team for the under fives and upwards. More information on these can be found on the Workshops and Lessons page. These include a Tots Music Group for the under fives and the Tetsu Taiko Groups for age 8 and upwards.
